Klamer provides a quote for EJW’s issue of “Intellectual Hazard: A Liberal Selection of Quotations”

From Econ Journal Watch (6: 2, May 2009, p. 281) under the heading “Cynicism and Acquiescence” comes:

Arjo Klamer (1990, 184) [The Making of an Economist]:
” ‘Of course this assumption is absurd,’ a well-known economist noted during a recent seminar, ‘but, hey, isn’t all we do absurd and utterly unrealistic?’ People laughed, and he continued solving the model.”

Because “EJW watches the journals for inappropriate assumptions, weak chains of argument, phony claims of relevance, and omissions of pertinent truths,” the editors of Conversations wanted to make clear that the targeted statement was brought to EJW’s attention by Klamer, not made by Klamer.
