Om het debat rond collectievorming en aankoopbeleid in de kunsten- en erfgoedsector aan te wakkeren, organiseren het agentschap voor Kunsten en Erfgoed, FARO en BAM een lezingenreeks met prominenten van de Vlaamse kunstmusea. Bovendien verschijnt in 2010 een publicatie met reflecties rond hetzelfde thema.
Dat de Vlaamse musea en overheid een rijke kunst- en erfgoedcollectie bezitten, staat buiten kijf. Met het oog op de ontwikkeling van een transparante strategische visie ten aanzien van deze collecties zetten zowel het agentschap voor Kunsten en Erfgoed als de steunpunten BAM en FARO dit voorjaar in op de thematiek van het verzamelen en het ontsluiten van kunst- en erfgoedcollecties.

Lezingenreeks
In de lezingenreeks lichten de directeurs van de belangrijkste musea voor hedendaagse en oude kunst in Vlaanderen hun visie op hun eigen collectie toe. Vragen die aan bod zullen komen zijn: Hoe schrijven ze zich in in een lange traditie van kunstaankopen? Welke accenten leggen ze? Hoe gaan ze om met de collectie? Wat zijn de toekomstperspectieven?

Ook enkele buitenlandse sprekers brengen inspirerende standpunten rond collectie-opbouw: de theoreticus Arjo Klamer (Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam) zal over de economische en symbolische waarde van collecties spreken. Manuel Borja-Villel (Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid), Christian Bernard (MAMCO, Genève) en Charles Esche (Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven) zijn museumdirecteurs van instellingen op min of meer vergelijkbare schaal als de Vlaamse, met sterke visies waaraan we de situatie in Vlaanderen kunnen toetsen.
